Lawn Care Resources- Weed Control

Weeds are one of the major problems in a lawn. These are considered to be opportunists. Wherever they find plain spots or the places in your lawn where the grass is not healthy they take the advantage and grow rapidly. Weed control is one of the most important activities that are to be carried out by every lawn owner to keep his or her lawn look healthy and green.

The weeds that grow from the roots every year are known as perennial weeds. These weeds can make your lawn look very ugly. Then there are annual weeds that die out at the end of every season and reborn again in the next year. These weeds can create bare spots on your lawn and make your lawn look vulnerable. No matter what type of weed affects your garden, it is very important to control the weed growth.

An important method of weed control is high mowing of your lawn. It is recommended that you should not mow grass smaller in height than suggested for the species you are growing in your lawn. Mowing at a height of three inches or above assists grass in shading out the weeds and supports a denser lawn. Using the right type of grass species, fertilizing the grass with right type of fertilizers and watering the grass correctly help in making the grass healthy and strong which is an effective method of weed control. Special attention should be paid to the areas that are used heavily, for example, the sections near pavement. Weeds have a tendency to gain a strong hold in such areas and then spread easily in the rest parts of the lawn.

It is essential that you repair the bare parts of your lawn by raking in the seeds in the earlier parts of the spring season so that the fresh grass grows and fight with the weeds. If your lawn is not very healthy, make sure the use of proper fertilizers to improve the quality and density of the grass. This greatly helps in weed control.

An effective method of weed control is studying the weeds in your lawn properly. If it is seen that the weeds are more likely in a particular area every year, it should be interpreted that either there is some malpractice in nourishing the lawn or there is something that is assisting the growth of weeds in that particular area.

If you are using some herbicides for weed control it is very important that you are using the right type of the products and that too at the right time. It is important for you to follow the directions given on the labels of the herbicides and try to locate the areas where you need to concentrate your weed control effort. Using the right amount of liquid weed controllers is very important. The granular weed control products are recommended only on lawns that have plenty of weeds in the entire region. The granular weed control herbicides are effective when the grass is damp or wet as the dampness helps the granules of the herbicides to stick to the weed.
