Spring Lawn Care Tips:
1. Clean it up!
Get rid of all the leaves and debris off your lawn. Lightly rake your lawn so you don't damage the roots after winter. Your lawn will not only look much better, your lawn will be much healthier.
2. Find the patches
Look for any bare patches, or signs of damage. Looks for any part of the lawn that needs attention.
3. Any rodent holes?
When the snow melts, you might find those mole holes have popped up. Flatten all the holes with a shovel and rake.
4. Don't feed just yet
During the first six weeks of spring let your lawn grow naturally. Fertilizing too early might stress your lawn and make it difficult to have the greenest lawn possible.
5. Fill in those bare spots
Take a little seed and fill in any bare spots that are larger than a small dish. Anything smaller than that will grow back naturally. Simply spread seed on the patch and take a rake covering the seeds with dirt. Water daily, keeping the dirt most. You will soon see the seeds sprouting and taking root. Try to keep foot traffic off the bare patches if possible.
7. Got water?
Your lawn will need plenty of water. If it doesn't rain in your area frequently use your sprinkler or irrigation sytem. You shouldn't have any standing water at this point. If you do, you probably need some drainage help. Consult a drainage specialist. Too much water will damage your lawn.
8. Start your engines
Get the mower ready. Get the oil changed, blades sharpened, and balanced. Dull blades are not good for your lawn and may cause disease in some areas.
